a potted history
Following Art A'Level and an Art Foundation Course at Chelsea School of Art and Design I headed west for my degree course, studying Graphic Design at the University of the West of England:Bristol, a large proportion of this time was spent concentrating on photography. Graduating with honours in 1992, I spent a few years working in the field of commercial photography in London working with Nick Wood, from where I moved sideways into the world of 3D computer animation where I stayed for many years. My artistic side has gradually returned, and now I juggle three children alongside garden photography and painting.
I see my paintings as a literal representation of a reality that is a blend of both the visible and the ephemeral. I do not seek to abstract what I see, but embellish the visual stimuli with textures and marks to suggest emotion and a sense of how I feel. I work primarily in oils, exploring ways to change the texture of the oils in order to make the kind of marks I feel are most appropriate.
